A NOTE TO REFLECTOR ADMINS

Hi Folks,
I realize dashboard links are not always operational, but I require them to be operational when entering a new reflector in the Directory. The reason is to help keep the Directory current with active reflectors. Dead or inactive links undermine the usefulness and credibility of the Directory.
I have recently experienced several requests for new reflectors to be added with dashboard links that do not work. In some cases, there are typos in the URL, sometimes extraneous folders in the URL. Some cases, the URL works but goes to the web server landing page instead of the actual reflector dashboard. In these situations, it is pretty obvious that the links as entered in the request NEVER worked. That means you asked for the reflector to be added either without even trying the dashboard link, or ignoring the link not working. Going back and forth on this wastes both our times and creates unnecessary clutter in the request thread.
So the solution is simple. Try the link and make sure it works before making the request. Maybe you need to copy and paste the link to avoid typos. I realize there will be times when a link works when you make the request, but for some reason does not work when I try it. That is not a problem. In that case I will simply ask you to fix the issue. But I really want to avoid requests that have links that NEVER worked. Thanks for your cooperation.
ADDED: Make sure you provide correct host file information if you want your reflector reachable. Please follow the instructions in the forum header.
